Some Scribblings

Last year I took a course called Building Great Sentences. These are some of the results of the assignments.
This was my first long sentence which consists of 78 words
. :-)
The Farmer stood looking, staring blankly, with damp eyes, his legs shaking, shivering with the sensation of the desolation set before him, the desolation that had been his farm, passed down through six generations, once green and productive, now a charred and barren wilderness, the lush pastureland that had been his life now gone, having taken his wife and children with it, in what, years later, the locals would refer to as “The Great Fire of 86’ ”.

This is another of my favorites consisting of 141 words in one sentence. :-)

The young girl looked around her, seeing the utter desolation and destruction spread before her, so terrible it was like a nightmare come true, seeing the thousands of men dead or wounded scattered across the battlefield, the ground seeping in their blood, the blood that would no longer give life to its master, the wounded crying for help or fainting when the pain became too much to bear, the wind blowing through the field, floating her long brown curls before her face, she pushing them behind her ears with trembling; work worn hands, work that would haunt her for the rest of her days, waking her in the night, coming back to her by day, reminding her of the days she spent nursing allied soldiers, doing her part for the war effort, saving some, burying others, but giving hope to all.
